We’ve also caught some brilliant alternative music recently – Australian exports (and touted by Noel Gallagher) The Panics played at King Tuts recently. Stadium band in a tiny venue, not something you’ll see very often.

As for Edinburgh, in August they have something called “The Fringe”. To wander round the Capital during the Fringe really is an eye opener – the place is simply buzzing. It really has to be experienced to be believed – even if you don’t fancy the more ‘arty’ events, the variety is incredible. The only problem is that the hotel prices shoot up at this time of year (or rather the ‘cheap options’ simply dry up). That said, it’s worth heading through on the train even for the day.

I can’t stop typing without a hearty recommendation for King Tuts, on St Vincent Street in Glasgow. It’s a fantastic venue, dead close to the city centre and has one of the best jukeboxes in the world. Problem solved.
